Driving a vehicle commercially over 3.5 tonnes?  …then you need to make sure that you hold a Driver Certificate of Professional Competence.
The Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) is a European Union wide Training Directive which has been introduced “to maintain high driving standards and improve road safety”.

To achieve and maintain their Driver CPC, all professional drivers, new or existing, will have to undertake 35 hours of  training every 5 years. This training is known as Periodic Training and you can be fined up to £1,000 for driving professionally without Driver CPC.

New drivers wanting to drive a lorry, bus or coach will need to pass  theory and practical tests before taking the Driver CPC training if they wish to drive professionally. There are some situations when you don’t need Driver CPC e.g. private use

Only courses approved by the Joint Approvals Unit for Periodic Training (JAUPT) will count towards the Driver CPC. This training can only be delivered by training centres that have also been approved by JAUPT.  Waste Wise is a JAUPT and RTITB accredited centre.

The Driver CPC training consists of 5 modules – each module  must be of at least 7 hours in duration, excluding breaks. Waste Wisecan deliver the modules flexibly according to your needs e.g.

  • consecutively over 5 days
  • one day a week
  • one day a month
  • one day a year (over 5 years)
